Smart Image Sharpen is a finishing tool for images that are already reasonably clean but feel slightly soft after resizing, compression, scanning or normal camera processing. It improves local edge contrast so text, product edges, hair and small details read more clearly without creating new resolution. Because sharpening works on existing structure, it should not be used as a substitute for deblurring, denoising or upscaling. If the source contains motion smear, heavy grain or too few pixels, solve that problem first and sharpen only at the end. This workflow is useful for web images, screenshots, product photos, presentation graphics and exported artwork that needs a little extra crispness at its final size. Start with a low or medium strength, then inspect halos around high-contrast edges and noisy texture in shadows. Oversharpening can make skin look brittle, create bright outlines around objects and exaggerate JPEG blocks. The best result is usually the smallest adjustment that makes the final image feel clearer without drawing attention to the processing.

Sharpening increases local contrast around existing edges so they appear crisper. It does not uniquely reconstruct a subject that was strongly motion-blurred or out of focus, so use deblur or a better source when the underlying edge information is missing.
Look for bright or dark halos, gritty skin, emphasized noise and brittle-looking hair or foliage. Check at 100% zoom and at normal output size; a file that looks dramatic when zoomed out may be harsh in print or on a large display.
Use only necessary cleanup before upscaling and apply final sharpening after the image reaches its delivery dimensions. The resize or reconstruction changes edge structure, so finishing at the final size gives you better control.
It can improve already-readable strokes, but it can also turn ambiguous characters into crisp-looking mistakes when combined with generative enhancement. Retrieve the original document when possible and verify important text independently.
